Continuation of OSINT training series for Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office and Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea

The August training season by LingvaLexa continues! On August 16, we once again visited the Prosecutor's Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and on August 19-20, we conducted a training for the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office. The event was aimed at improving the skills of prosecutors in using open sources of information for investigations and evidence gathering.

Traditionally, participants analyzed real cases prepared by LingvaLexa trainers. Prosecutors learned how to establish personal data, search for photos of individuals in open sources, and identify connections between different individuals. These skills are critical in the process of investigating crimes, especially in the context of information warfare.

One of the centerpieces of the training was the ability to identify the exact geolocation and time of a photo or video. This information can be crucial evidence in many cases, so the participants went over various methods of identifying such data.

The trainings also discussed the first world cyber war between russia and Ukraine, which has been going on since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and its global implications. Participants examined how russia uses cyberspace to attack Ukraine's critical infrastructure and how to counter these threats.

Special attention was paid to information security issues. Prosecutors learned how to set up security settings in popular messengers such as Viber, Telegram, WhatsApp, and Signal. This knowledge is important not only for professional activities but also for personal protection of Ukrainians in the face of growing cyber threats.

The practical part of the training included tasks on storing information from open sources. Participants had the opportunity to try out new tools in practice, which contributed to better learning.
