Training for the Luhansk, Donetsk, and Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Offices
In the first half of August 2024, specialists from the NGO LingvaLexa conducted a comprehensive OSINT training at the Luhansk (August 6–7), Donetsk (August 8–9), and Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Offices (August 12–13), which included multi-day workshops and cooperation in conducting investigations.
The trainings were aimed at familiarizing participants with the principles and legal framework of the Russian system “SOIA” (System for Operative Investigative Activities). This system is one of the main tools used by Russia to conduct cyber operations in its war against Ukraine. Participants examined in detail how SORM works and how its use affects Ukraine’s information security.
Special attention was given to case analysis, including:
-identifying personal data and finding photos of individuals in open sources;
-determining the exact geolocation and time from photos or videos, which is extremely important in the process of proving evidence during investigations.
One of the key topics discussed during the training was the first global cyber war between Russia and Ukraine and its consequences for international security. LingvaLexa specialists provided a detailed explanation of the tactics used by the enemy and ways to protect against cyberattacks.
At the end of the training, participants discussed information security measures and secure messenger settings. They also examined methods for safely using the GetContact application and removing personal data from this resource. The practical part included tasks on preserving information from open sources and using a visualizer to present investigation results.
The trainings conducted by the NGO "LingvaLexa" provided participants not only with new knowledge but also with practical skills necessary for effective work in the conditions of modern information warfare. Prosecutors from the three regional offices received essential tools for defending Ukraine’s interests in the legal field.
