NGO LingvaLexa during the international conference on Human Rights Day

On December 12, 2024, the Educational and Research Institute of Law of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv together with the Department of Constitutional Law held the annual international scientific conference “Human Life as a Constitutional Value in Modern Conditions”, dedicated to the International Human Rights Day.

The event was opened with welcoming remarks:

Yevhen Herasymenko, Deputy Director of the Institute of Law, PhD;
Olha Lotiuk, Head of the Department of Constitutional Law, Doctor of Law, Professor.

The key point of the conference was the plenary panel discussion moderated by Oleksandr Moskaliuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional Law, PhD, Associate Professor. The participants were able to listen to the speeches of leading experts:

Anna Vyshniakova, a lawyer in the field of international criminal law and head of the NGO LingvaLexa, presented a report on “Genocide: the destruction of human groups as the most serious international crime”. Her presentation aroused considerable interest, as the topic is extremely important in the current global context of human rights protection.

Margarita Sokorenko, Government Agent for the ECHR, addressed the issue of “Protection of the right to life through the prism of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms”.

Yevhen Tkachenko, Associate Professor at Yaroslav the Wise National Law University, spoke about “The right to life in the context of protection of national minorities' rights in Ukraine”.

Vadym Chernysh, Head of the Center for Security Studies “SENSS”, drew attention to “Ensuring the right to life in the context of armed conflict”.

Andriy Yevstigneev, member of the CEC, raised the issue of “Correlation between the right to life and the duty to defend the Fatherland”.

The participants of the conference, among whom there were mostly students of the Institute of Law, actively participated in the discussion, asked questions to the speakers and expanded their knowledge of the right to life guaranteed by Article 2 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
