Podcast by Ilya Nuzov and Anna Vyshniakova on Russian hate speech

On June 6, 2024, the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), together with Ukrainian and Russian human rights organizations, made a communication under Article 15 of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. The communication accuses six Russian citizens of committing a crime against humanity in the form of incitement to hatred in Ukraine. The communication emphasizes the importance of hate speech in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and calls for the perpetrators to be brought to justice. In the latest episode of the Asymmetrical Haircuts podcast, human rights experts Ilya Nuzov, a representative of the International Federation for Human Rights, and Anna Vyshniakova, head of the NGO LingvaLexa, discuss the messages and reveal shocking aspects of Russian hate propaganda. They examined in detail the mechanisms of spreading and influencing hate speech in Russia, as well as the consequences of this activity in the international arena. They discussed the urgent need to bring Russian propagandists to justice, using universal jurisdiction and applying to the International Criminal Court. This should be a complementary addition to those cases that are being considered in national Ukrainian courts and create a multi-level mechanism that will effectively work against these propagandists and Russia's policy of spreading hate speech.
